Voltron
As we move our production of “The Last Five Years” into The Firemen’s Kitchen space, today, I can’t help nerding out and thinking about “Voltron.” Voltron is the name of a giant robot in an anime television series I grew up watching that features a team of space explorers known as the Voltron Force. The space explorers pilot robot lions who join together to form the giant robot with which they defend the galaxy. So, what does Voltron have to do with musical theatre? Everything. We’re not defending a galaxy, but in this economy with no standalone producer for this show, it has taken a fleet of smaller producers, faith in HCT, our studio and the working artists involved—Johnson Piano, Dr. Greg Brooks, Allen Wood, Hickory Park, ITP, and many personal contributions—all joining together to make this happen. Thank you. To spin a line from the show, “If you didn’t believe in us, we wouldn’t have gotten this far.”
