Hickory Arts: Acting Lessons for Every Skill Level
Hickory Arts offers Beginner, Intermediate, and Advanced Acting Lessons for Stage and Screen.
One-on-One Acting Lessons Using "The Method"
Private, one-on-one Acting Lessons at Hickory Arts take place weekly and use "The Method," also known as the Stanislavsky System. These lessons not only focus on understanding human behavior but also on improving interpersonal communication and making informed performance choices.
Comprehensive Training for Actors
Additionally, key areas include threading, interpreting what’s between the lines, physicality, empathy, and deep character study. Furthermore, students explore musical theatre applications while learning the dos and don’ts of interview and audition protocols. Building a professional headshot and resume is also an essential part of the training.
Structured Learning for Personal Growth
Actors are expected to memorize monologues, engage in scene work, and keep a journal in a three-ring binder. In every session, they use the journal to take notes, assess themselves, and analyze their progress. Additionally, they organize handouts and additional information in the binder. This approach not only helps actors reflect on their growth but also supports more effective practice.
Focused Audition Preparation
Acting students establish clear goals that guide each session. Lessons cover audition preparation for equity, film, NCTC/SETC, grade school, college, and community theatre. Moreover, students explore movement techniques like the Alexander Technique and the Stanislavsky method.
Building Confidence and Character Development
In addition to learning about resume building, film work, and improvisation, they also focus on character development, audition etiquette, and intense scene work. As a result, these lessons provide actors with well-rounded skills needed for success on both stage and screen.
Encouraging Young Performers to Shine
For young and aspiring performers, there’s always room for those who dream of being on stage. We guide students to become comfortable in their own skin, showing them that the creative process can be both simple and enjoyable. Every session includes creative exercises and games, allowing students to explore and develop characters in a safe and encouraging environment.
