Heather Niemi Savage: Accomplished Piano and Composition Instructor

Heather Niemi Savage earned her B.A. from the University of Rhode Island College of Arts and Sciences, double majoring in Music and Elementary Education. She also holds a Master’s in Music Composition from Appalachian State University. Heather is available for Beginner, Intermediate, and Advanced Piano Lessons, as well as Theory and Composition at Hickory Arts.


Heather's Philosophy on Music

Heather believes that all people are inherently musical beings. Music, she argues, is a vital part of our individual makeup and an essential aspect of community life. Furthermore, she emphasizes that music helps connect us with ourselves, others, and the world around us. The study of music, according to Heather, fosters confidence, emotional expression, and improved communication skills. It also enhances focus, pattern recognition, and knowledge integration across various fields. In short, music is one of the most valuable activities a person can engage in.


Teaching Approach and Methodology

Heather works with students both individually and in group settings, guiding them in their self-discovery of musical concepts. Her teaching style is nurturing, yet disciplined, helping students achieve success in piano playing and composition. Additionally, she offers group lessons that provide collaboration opportunities and year-end recitals for students to share their work. Moreover, Heather advises students on further activities that will enhance their growth and help them reach their goals.

Heather brings over 25 years of teaching experience to her students, working with people of all ages and abilities. She is skilled in teaching neurodiverse students, including those with ADHD, dyslexia, and autism. Heather’s accolades include:
